Authors Guidelines

 Manuscript Preparation
Authors must prepare manuscripts in accordance with international academic standards. Each submission should include the following sections:
•    Title
•    Abstract (150–250 words)
•    Keywords (3–6 terms)
•    Introduction
•    Methodology
•    Results
•    Discussion
•    Conclusion
•    References (IEEE citation style)
Formatting Requirements:
•    File format: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)
•    Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
•    Line spacing: 1.5
•    Page numbers: Bottom center
•    Figures and tables: Numbered and captioned clearly
•    Equations: Numbered sequentially if applicable

Submission Process
•    Manuscripts must be submitted via the BMI online submission portal: http://bmi.uoitc.edu.iq
•    Authors must register and provide: 
o    Full names and institutional affiliations
o    Valid ORCID identifiers for all contributors
•    A cover letter is recommended, summarizing the manuscript’s contribution and relevance to BMI’s scope.

 Editorial Workflow
1.    Initial Check 
o    Manuscripts are screened for formatting, scope alignment, and completeness.
2.    Plagiarism Screening 
o    All submissions undergo Turnitin analysis.
o    Acceptable similarity index: ≤ 20%
o    AI detection score: ≤ 25%
o    Higher scores may result in rejection or mandatory revision before review.
3.    Editorial Assessment 
o    The editorial team evaluates relevance, clarity, and scientific merit.
4.    Peer Review 
o    Double blind model
o    At least three reviewers selected based on subject expertise
o    Reviewers assess originality, methodology, ethical compliance, and contribution
5.    Decision and Revision 
o    Authors receive anonymized reviewer feedback
o    Revisions must be submitted with changes highlighted in red and a point-by-point response letter
o    Final decision communicated after editorial review

Article Processing Charges (APCs)
•    Standard Fee: $125 USD (≈164,688 IQD) per accepted manuscript
•    Additional Pages: $5 USD (≈6,548 IQD) charged for each page exceeding the standard length
•    Notification: Authors are notified to pay all applicable fees upon final acceptance

 Language Editing Policy
BMI is committed to publishing manuscripts that meet international standards of linguistic quality. As part of the copyediting process, all accepted papers undergo professional English language editing by the KGSupport Center to ensure clarity, precision, and academic tone.
•    This service is mandatory.
•    A language editing fee is applied, communicated to authors during final acceptance.
•    The fee structure depends on manuscript length and complexity.

Ethical Standards
•    Conflict of interest disclosures are required.
•    Research involving humans or animals must include ethical approval documentation.
•    BMI adheres to COPE and international publishing ethics.

 Copyright and Licensing
•    Authors retain copyright under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY).
•    All articles are published Open Access and freely available worldwide.
•    Publishing rights are transferred to the Faculty of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Information Technology and Communications (UOITC), Baghdad- Iraq.
